As a result of the success of the commission for Crag Stone at Pooley Bridge (see below), the village council has asked me to carve two slate ‘clogs’ to act as village signs. Unfortunately the supply of slate ‘clogs’ has dried up, but I have been able to source some hefty chunks of local limestone from this pile of stone.

Each piece weighs about 2 tonnes and will stand about 1.4 metres high.

The pieces have now been moved nearer to where I can work on them and here they are lying on their backs. The one on the right has had its base squared off. Tomorrow one of them will be set upright and I will then start carving
